The Citizens4Health Health Information Technology Initiative
The Initiative's goal is to make sure that healthcare information technology (HIT) in its many applications, contributes to creating an American healthcare system that provides excellent care for all Americans at a cost that is affordable to the individual, their community and the nation. Used effectively, HIT has the potential to improve the lives and health of all Americans and to create a better, more efficient and affordable healthcare system. It is clear that the current HIT applications fall short of the potential. In order to achieve its transformational potential, HIT tools must address the goals of healthcare, rather than simply computerizing the current dysfunctional healthcare system setup. The Citizens4Health Health Information Technology Initiative is woven in with our other efforts to transform the US healthcare system. These efforts start with a cohesive vision of healthcare and the system that can provide it, we them examine the role of HIT and provide a road map to utilize HIT to reach the vision.
